Yasmin Mahdi
United Kingdom
畢業年份: 2010
The University of Aberdeen is refreshing, character-building and motivating.
I chose to study Economics because it is a broad and interdisciplinary social science that allows you to study topics as wide ranging as how big a role the state should have in the economy to household decisions regarding how many children to have or how many hours to work. Practically anything can be analysed using economic models, so there is a lot of scope to focus on issues which interest you. Lectures are well-planned and presented. It is so much easier to pay attention and benefit from lectures when the lecturer is charismatic and tries to make the subject interesting. I would like to change about my University Experience: I took too many courses in first year because I was so eager to try out a million different subjects, from Maths to Philosophy - I didn't give enough attention to any one of the courses. I have no concrete plans on what I would do after graduation, but development economics is an area which I am very interested in, so I would like to pursue it further after graduation.
The best part of the University so far: Going to Germany on a Socrates Erasmus Exchange in my second year. It was very challenging to go to a new country and study there for a semester. I had an amazing time and German stopped being an academic subject and became a language I could actually use.
